Stax Diner, Soho London

For most Halal foodies, Stax is the first name that comes to mind when you think of Halal burger joints – but unfortunately i’m not one of those.

Having eaten here multiple times before, the food quality is not consistent – and some times you leave thinking I can’t believe I just paid £20, and I’m still hungry! HOWEVER – there has been a few experiences where I’ve left happy!

First time I tried Stax I really wasn’t too keen, but as many people suggested that I perhaps just had a one-off bad experience, I decided to give it a second go, and this time round I was very impressed! I tried ‘The Big Stax’ and made it a double. The burger didn’t taste anything extraordinary, but they did a great job!

However, one thing which I’ve learnt about Stax is that they really don’t know how to make a milkshake! If you ever visit – don’t bother. I find it really disappointing when burger joints can’t make a good milkshake – to me that’s like Nando’s under-cooking Chicken.

On another visit, their grill wasn’t working so I gave their Chicken burger a try. Definitely still prefer the beef but this burger was also very good! As always, the milkshakes were a failure.

On yet another visit (I know – I complain, but I keep returning), I was extremely skeptical about trying the chicken and waffles at Staxx, because I couldn’t imagine the two going together well… but I was proven very wrong! The two (strangely) go together very well, and the Maple Syrup really compliments both the waffle and the chicken. Would definitely recommend trying this out!!

I know I’ve contradicted myself in this review about 100+ times, and my friends say the same to me, as whenever I’m in the area I’ll suggest going here for a meal, but then occasionally I’ll be complaining after.

B T W –  I’d definitely advise booking in advance, as the diner is tiny with a guaranteed wait of around 30 mins!
