Sheesh Restaurant, Chigwell

If you follow anyone from Made In Chelsea (or any other Essex celebrities for that matter) then you’ll definitely have seen them post an Instagram picture here before. Just to get into the restaurant, we had to wait for about 5 groups of people to take a picture posting outside the restaurant. It’s notoriously known for always having a famous face or two eating here – the day before we came, Rio Ferdinand was dining in! Unfortunately we didn’t bump into any familiar faces, although I heard on that on the day Halal Food Diary were in town. (not funny? nevermind.)

The restaurant confirmed that they offer a fully Halal menu.

This restaurant has the most incredible decor and atmosphere. Based in a 600 year old building, with a really cool outside seating area and an old school MG parked up front – not forgetting an even more prestige decor inside the restaurant!

The restaurant offers an up-market experience, but at a very reasonable price for the service and quality of food offered. Sheesh provides a valet parking service with some pretty impressive cars parked up – how i’d love to have the Valet guys job! Next visit I’m definitely hiring a Lamborghini to fit in. Oh and that reminds me – there is no dress code, but there seemed to be a memo passed around that I missed out on as everyone was dressed to impress!

For starters (as there was a big group of us) we tried a selection of items from their menu. You can’t possibly go to a Turkish restaurant and not order some Hummus, so that was definitely on our bill! A decent Hummus and fairly priced too at £5. My favourite starter was the Calamari (£12), which (I know I make this claim with everything) was the best I’ve tried to date! We also tried the Lahmacun (£8).

For my mains I went for the Karisik Grille – essentially a Mixed Grill which included: Chicken Sheesh, Chicken Wings, Lamb Chop, Lamb Sheesh and Lamb Adana Kebab. The meat is accompanied with half a plate full of salad – all for a total price of £34. Pretty pricey, but for the quality and quantity of the meat that you get, I thought it was totally worth it! When I assess value for money, the question I usually ask myself is ‘would I come back, and order the same thing?’ and I can tell you now I’d be back in a heartbeat! The meat was so full of flavour – not like a lot of these Turkish places you go to where you have to drown your kebab in garlic sauce before you can down it. The chicken was especially tasty and the lamb was unbelievably tender. Even the salad tasted good and I’m usually not one to touch my greens – there wasn’t a single thing left on my plate after I was done with it.

Literally couldn’t fault anything here, from the amazing service with the valet parking – to the very well presented interior of the restaurant. Final words: I will be back.

Address: High Rd, Chigwell IG7 6QA
Halal status: All meat served is Halal, Alcohol is however served on the premises.
