TAPAK Urban Street Dining, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
I have to be completely honest – when I’m on holiday, Street Food is a complete no-no for me. Believe me, I’ve tried. My stomach is weak, everytime I give it a go, I end up spending the rest of my holiday in bed recovering, so naturally I pay little attention when Street Food is suggested to me!
However after a long day of travelling the City, it was past midnight, nearly all restaurants were closed for the day as it was a weekday, we even tried to walk into random hotels to find food but had no luck! We turned to some locals to ask them where we can find food to eat at this time, and when they told us there was Street Food available nearby, I naturally said ‘no thanks’, but my friend dragged me along saying that I can sit and watch but he just had to eat!
So we turned up at this place, after walking through an abandoned car park which we joked ‘this looks like one of those scenes in movies where a car turns up and you get thrown in the boot and killed’, we finally turned up at this exciting ring of vans parked up with dozens of people sat in the middle on wooden tables and chairs enjoying what looked like… Street Food!
Most of what you’ll find around here is burgers, fries, grilled chicken and a variety of drinks from milkshakes to fruit drinks like the Mango milkshake that we tried!
The food is really cheap! We must have paid around 3-4 pounds for all of the food that we got, and for the price and considering it was at this point like 1/2am, we were definitely satisfied!
The atmosphere at this place was just amazing – loads of families and groups of friends were sat here late into the night, playing card games at tables and enjoying the incredible views of the Petronas Towers!
And most importantly… I can confirm… that the following day… there were… no stomach problems!!
I should also mention that we un-necessarily got ourselves lost on the way here. On my visit a few years later on KL, we got here much quicker – it’s about a 10 minute walk from the Petronas Towers. Stick it into your Google Maps and you’ll be here in no time (plus you’ll avoid walking through a creepy car park like we did!).
