Spice Village, Tooting
Spice Village is a name you’ll definitely have heard of, whether as the restaurant in Tooting/Ilford/Southall, or as the caterers at a wedding – and from my experience they never disappoint!
This post is from an Iftaar visit during Ramadan 2017, when the restaurant was absolutely packed out for Iftaar with multiple people being turned away! From my visits outside of Ramadan it’s never usually that packed, but I’d still advise booking in advance at Peak times to avoid long queues!
During Ramadan, like most other Muslim-owned restaurants, they kindly offer complimentary Onion Bhajis, Dates and rose water for you to break your fast with, and Tooting Islamic Centre is only a 5min walk away.
For starters we tried the Seekh Kebabs, Masala Fish and the Chicken Tikka. These came promptly, and all tasted great! My fav was the Kebabs. For the mains, we tried the Lamb Biryani, and a Lamb and Chicken curry. We weren’t overly keen on the Chicken Curry, but the Lamb was done really well and went perfectly with the Biryani!
All in all a good visit, only let down was that service was a bit slow when we got to our mains. My starter of Chana chaat came after we’d finished eating, and the naans didn’t come with the starters, but the waiter kindly took the later starter off the bill.
In my opinion, Dawat has to be my favourite Indian restaurant when it comes to Indian food in Tooting, but Spice Village still do a great job – so if you haven’t already, then check them out!
