10+ Restaurants you can eat at for under a Tenner

So Boris has eased lock-down restrictions and allowed restaurants to open for dine-in *hooray*!

If you, like me, have been itching to get back out and eating again, then no doubt you’ll be using this weekend to grab your facemask & an umbrella and return to your fav restaurant to eat!

With so many places to choose from, it can be difficult to decide – plus from scanning around, lots of places already booked up for the next few days (the soonest I could find a table at PF Changs was like 2 weeks away!).

So to help out – I’ve put together a list of 10 things you can eat/drink this weekend (well, I started with 10 but got a little carried away). I know this year has been tough on all, so I’ve challenged myself (and my followers on Instagram) to come up with things you can eat for under a tenner! Personally I came up with around 6/7 places, but I was surprised at how many you guys were able to come up with. Thanks to everyone who helped out – had 200+ suggestions!

Although most of the ones mentioned were chicken shops in East London which I’ve politely excluded from this list 🙂

I present to you – my list of 10+ Halal cheap eats where you can dine for under a tenner.

This post is sponsored by Candy Box Ldn, who are offering free delivery on all American Candy boxes this weekend.

Vapianos

Surprisingly many people don’t know that Vapiano’s offers Halal meat – the Chicken is Halal in all of their stores throughout the UK! Since we’re trying to keep to a budget of a tenner here – I’d recommend their Arrabbiata Pasta (£9.35) or one of their Pizzas! And if you don’t mind stretching a few extra quid – the Chicken Alfredo is my personal fav here! The Fillet Beef is also Halal (but not the minced beef in the lasagne/bolognese)

Just be sure to check the ingredients of whatever you order, as 2 of their pastas contain wine – but you can always ask to have it without wine!

Whipped London

If you’ve followed me on Instagram for a while then you’ll have definitely seen me raving on about this place! It was closed throughout lockdown, but they’ve now reopened on Endell St, a few mins walk from Covent Garden Station. My absolute fav here is the Oreo Cheesecake, but whatever you choose here – you can’t go wrong! Ask Alice (the owner) for advice on what you order and you’ll definitely be in good hands!

Normah’s Place

Whoever suggested this to me was really on the money – I looked at their menu online and couldn’t find a single dish over a tenner!

Apple Blue Patisserie

Located in Balham, a lovely little cafe with a concise but delicious menu! I always go for the Dutch Baby & Fried Chicken here which is £10.20 (i’m hoping you’ll all forgive me for the 20p!) which has never let me down – and I’ve had it quite a few times! Everything is Halal here, the service is always lovely (albeit slow as it’s a small place).

Rabbit Hole Cafe

If like me lock-down has got you tired of cooking your own breakfasts, then you’ll be glad that we can finally sit-in and have someone else do the hard work for us! Rabbit Hole Cafe is defo top 3 on my list of Halal breakfast places – I find that in most places the meat just doesn’t taste great, but these guys don’t compromise on quality!

JOLT

I’m sure none of you need an introduction to this place – but I’ve certainly missed my Milk Cake fix from here! I’ve tried them all, and my personal fav has to be the Pistachio, as I found the Rose one a little too strong. If you do however fancy a Rose Milk Cake.. then I’ve heard that Halal Food Diary has a great recipe, and I’ve included the link here. Around £7-8 for a Milk Cake here, so don’t think that’ll leave you with much change to anything else – but perhaps you could ask for a glass of water! haha

Humble Crumble

A new (must be.. as I hadn’t heard of it before lockdown!) place that I’ve seen cropping up all over the gram! I haven’t personally visited, but only seen good reviews about this place – located in Old Spitalfields Market & Borough Market. If we’re judging by appearance then it certainly looks like a good purchase! Confirmed with them via DM that all of their products are Halal.

Wingmans

Another place you’ve definitely seen me eat at more than once on the ‘gram! £8 for a portion of 6 wings – so I recommend going in a group… 2 portions of wings and a portion of chips will set you back £19.75, and I can guarantee you’ll be licking your fingers after (unless of course if you use the gloves they give you). My recommendations are the Shanghai Oriental and Bang Coq.

Zaha Grill

If you look on their wall you’ll see that I’ve written “undoubtedly my favourite place in London for Lunch!” and I completely stand by that statement! They’re now open until 9pm (although closed on weekends!) and they also do the best Karak Chai in London… yes, better than Chaiiwala and Chapati & Karak. You can easily get a meal for under a tenner – and what’s more… for every meal you purchase they’ll donate one to someone in need!

Andy’s Burger

Niko definitely put this place on the map with the “Not McDonalds” video – and from what I understand most meals are under a tenner too! I’m hopefully visiting next week, so watch this space for my verdict!

Chicago Grill

Since I’ve started “dieting” (or that’s what I’m calling it in my head) I’ve been consciously trying to be healthy – e.g. getting a grilled chicken burger rather than a fried one. Recently tried Chicago Grill and I was impressed at how good it tasted – especially for the price! Branches in Hammersmith and Shepherd’s Bush so ideal if you’re visiting White City Westfields.

Holy Smoke and Burgers

Been meaning to visit this place for a while, living in South London makes East such a nightmare to get to… but if there’s one thing that’ll get me there then it’s these burgers! Ex-head Chef of Cristina’s (which I never visited, but turned me away as I was a few mins late for a reservation *sigh*). Have heard great things about this burger on Insta from some trusted foodies who I follow, so you’ll definitely be in good hands!
